Hina’s Answer

If you like game testing, there is a job called Quality Assurance (QA) at many game companies/startups.
I work as a Software Engineer at Zynga (in San Francisco) and QA is an absolutely crucial part of our development process. Other companies in the Bay Area that I imagine need QA testers:
- 2K
- Disney
- EA
- Kabam
(Others: http://www.gamedevmap.com/)

If you have a linkedin account, you can maybe search and reach out to some QA people who work at those companies, and see how they got there.

Good luck!

Living in the Bay Area provides you with access to numerous opportunities in the gaming industry, including game testing positions. Here are some suggestions for where to start your search for game testing opportunities in the Bay Area:

1. **Game Development Studios**: Many game development studios in the Bay Area, such as Electronic Arts (EA), Ubisoft, Zynga, and Blizzard Entertainment, hire game testers to evaluate their games during development. Check their career websites regularly for openings in game testing or quality assurance (QA) positions.

2. **Game Testing Companies**: There are companies dedicated to providing game testing services to game developers. Some examples include VMC Consulting Corporation, Keywords Studios, and VMC Game Labs. These companies often have offices or projects in the Bay Area and may hire game testers.

3. **Gaming Events and Conventions**: Attend gaming events, conferences, and conventions in the Bay Area, such as the Game Developers Conference (GDC), TwitchCon, or local gaming meetups. These events are excellent opportunities to network with industry professionals and learn about potential job openings in game testing.

4. **Online Job Boards and Websites**: Utilize online job boards and websites to search for game testing opportunities in the Bay Area. Websites like Indeed, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, and Gamasutra often list job openings in the gaming industry, including game testing positions.

5. **Game Testing Courses and Training Programs**: Consider enrolling in game testing courses or training programs to gain relevant skills and qualifications for game testing roles. Some institutions and organizations offer courses specifically focused on game testing and QA, which can enhance your employability in the industry.

6. **Networking and Referrals**: Network with professionals already working in the gaming industry in the Bay Area. Attend industry meetups, join online forums and communities, and connect with people on professional networking platforms like LinkedIn. Networking can often lead to job opportunities through referrals and recommendations.

7. **Freelancing Platforms**: Explore freelancing platforms like Upwork or Freelancer, where game developers may post short-term or remote game testing projects. While these opportunities may not be full-time positions, they can provide valuable experience and connections in the industry.

Remember to tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight any relevant experience or skills you have that are applicable to game testing. Additionally, be proactive in your job search, stay persistent, and continue building your skills and knowledge of the gaming industry. With determination and effort, you can find opportunities to start your career in game testing in the Bay Area.
