You have multiple routes available to you, but what I would consider the best route is to get your RN, preferably BSN. The next step would be to get a job in labor and delivery so you can get an idea of what the work is like and get experience. After gaining experience, which most post graduate programs require, you can apply to programs to become a Certified Nurse Midwife. This would be a Master’s or PhD depending on where you are, the school you attend and what your goals are. You’re looking at a total of approx 6-8 years of school. It can be a very rewarding job.
