I am in the 12th grade and i am just beginning to explore my future career as a registered nurse. What are some next steps to consider based on my skills and interests.
At school i'm more interested in anatomy and health while my hobbies include being helpful, creative, and Volunteer work. A topic that i am more passionate about is medicine. What are some career options that best align with these interests and what are some helpful next steps i can do in the near future?. #medicine #healthcare #career

You will learn plenty in school. Spend this time focusing on friends and family.
Hi Estelle, this does not directly answer the students question. Spending time with friends and family is good advice but what can they do to prepare for their future?

Take a look at integrative medicine or Functional medicine as a Nurse Practitioner (NP). As an NP you have more options and can be autonomous. Health care is changing these days. People are looking outside of Corporate medicine for answers. I believe epigenetic, neuroscience, biotechnology are pushing "evidence based practice" out the window.
Because of the burn out rate in Corporate health care I've changed my path to focus more on Holistic Nursing (alternative medicine).
In my career as a nurse, most corporations want us health care providers to focus on pushing the drugs, doctor referrals, DME (medical supplies) and procedures to be considered of "value" as a nurse. I was fired from 2 jobs because I could not keep up with their value base. Giving patient's the time and education they need does not match this value base. This will be the battle if you are to work for any corporation. The pay will be good most often but hours will not. Patients will love you. Corporations will push you hard and most often to burn out.
Sorry to be the "Debbie Downer" but do want to give a good perspective of what Corporate health care is these days. I am an older nurse in my 60s. Most of us older health care workers are leaving the profession because of this value base system. I prefer to care for my patients, give them my professional attention. I do not want to push more drugs and procedures they don't need to keep my job.
