Victor,
I cannot speak about what happens in the military. I can tell you though, that training is not a one-time thing. It is on-going, throughout your career. A person can start by doing basic things - oil changes and tire rotations. Then maybe work up to brakes and suspension system. Fuel system, engines, transmissions, electrical system, air conditioning. . . all require specialized and on-going training, because things change. And some operations are computerized. Mechanics have interesting work, especially when they get to troubleshoot problems. I have known many mechanics, and they all liked their work! I wish you the best! Also, the military is known for giving good training, in general.

I am an Army Veteran and here is what I can tell you about Auto tec in the Military.
After you complete BCT (Basic Combat Training) you will then go to AIT (Advance Individual Training)
AIT varies on location and training time depending on the MOS (job) you choose. Usually AIT for Mechanics is about 12 weeks long.
If you are active (full-time), after AIT you will then go to your duty station (wherever the military decided)
If you are a reservist (part-time) you will then go back to your state you enlisted from
To add, you will have to meet the requirements to join; Take these steps if you haven't done so:
1. Speak to a recruiter (see if you are eligible
2. ASVAB - for mechanics you will have to score well on your mechanic (which is not difficult if you know the basics)
3. If you join, it will be an experience you will never forget, make the best of it and don't give up!
Best of luck,
Gladys

First of all, you will need to check with a recruiter before enlist in the Army or the branch of service that you would like to be in. When you speak to your recruiter, ask to see if he or she can guarantee your military occupation specialty (MOS) training in auto-mechanic. You may need to take an aptitude test for it, but it is doable.
Best of luck and bless you for your service.
