Chris’s Answer

Learning languages sets you up for lifelong success! Especially if you want to be a pilot, having a working knowledge of a language can set you up to be a better communicator with your flight crew and co-pilots - which is great to build camaraderie in addition to being able to communicate in an emergency.

In addition to that - the more you travel around the world - knowing 2 or more languages will open more doors.

Finally - most colleges have a language requirement of their students. If you don't want to have to pay a ton of money in college to take level one Spanish, I would recommend taking the classes now and testing out of the requirement. This is what I did with 3 years of German, but after working with people all over the world, I wish I would have studied French or Spanish instead.

Chris recommends the following next steps:

What languages are offered at your school? Spanish and Mandarin will open the most doors
See if you can spend some time abroad before college to strengthen your language skills
When applying to colleges - think about if there are study abroad opportunities that you want to take advantage of

Mouna’s Answer

It is always a good idea to learn new languages. As a pilot, speaking one or two extra languages will be so useful as you will be traveling to multiple countries and meeting different nationalities every day.
