The length of time to begin a career in welding depends on several factors. You can enroll in a welding program to gain knowledge and skills. There are courses available through community colleges and trade schools. Enrolling in a welding program will help you diversify your welding skills and determine what type of welding you may be most interested in as a career. There are a variety of welding processes. Each type of welding requires different tests. Work with the school, teach and/or program facilitator to help guide you. Earning certifications can take one to six months depending on the method of welding. Some companies offer on the job training and apprenticeships.
