One-Run Versus Multi-Run Welds
For conventional C-Mn steels, embrittlement due to hot straining of the
strain-affected zone (SAZ) presents a potential hazard for multipass welds,
while no serious damage occurs in single-pass welds
refer to welding specialists - my father did this in the Navy. :-)

Michael’s Answer
It depends on the program you go to, the welding training should consist of a little less than one year. If you want to choose an accelerated program it could be less than 6 to 8 months. Some programs offer combined certification and career opportunities which will run for about 7 to 10 months.
