Ann’s Answer
I went to nursing school for my BSN right after high school. I always knew I wanted to be a nurse and wanted to help others. I wasn't sure what type of nursing I wanted to do, though. After graduation, I ended up working on a Medical-Surgical floor in a hospital as that was the position that was open. I recommend that type of work, initially, as it's a great learning experience and prepares you for just about any other nursing job there is. I eventually went back to school and received my Master's in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I felt I no longer wanted to work in a hospital (I now had small children) and felt I would better serve those in a clinic-working with them to better their health-to keep them out of the hospital.
Consider volunteering at a hospital to see if that's an environment you feel comfortable with.
