Elyse H.’s Answer

The easy answer is go to a school that teaches things like behavior management, child psychology and curriculum planning. The harder answer is that to be an effective teacher you need to learn how to engage with children and how to communicate well. You can do this through tutoring, volunteering and babysitting. I’ve been teaching for over 20 years and have found that the most successful people try to understand their students and their students’ lives on a deep level.

Christopher’s Answer

Research the credentialing requirement for the state you desire to teach in. Each state has different requirements and their education websites will provide you with the information needed. Typically, you must complete a 4-year degree from an accredited university in a teacher-credentialing program. Then you will take exams to prove your competency on the subjects that you wish to teach in.

Kathryn’s Answer

A bachelors degree is required to be a public school teacher. each state has different licensing requirements but your local four year college will know the TX requirements. You can reach in a religious school with the degree but without licensing, but for a lot less pay. It’s a rewarding profession. While I studied to be a teacher I ended up with a career in corporate learning. It’s a way to apply my skills in a business setting because all companies have training for their employees.

Kathryn recommends the following next steps:

Look at tx state requirements to become a teacher
Find local colleges with teaching programs
