Prerna’s Answer

hi ,

This is a such a chicken or egg problem. I am sure all of us have such dilemmas one time or another.

According to me , knowledge does no harm and if it is your dream college then eventually it will also lead you to your dream job or sometimes even better. So if you have the mean to attend that college and you are in no urgent need of that salary , I'd suggest go for that college, finish that degree .

This can be a bit different also depending on which field/industry with respect to which you see it. However in any case Knowledge is one resource which can only be increased .

Good Luck!

Its kind of your decision. You can have a dream job before college or if you decide to go to college you may get your dream job it's a 50/50 when it comes to jobs and I believe it is what state you are in rather or not you get your dream job as well. It's harder for me being in Midwest but I got a job that is a start to how I want my business to run once I have gotten everything in order. I can say it's a start for me as of right now bc it's a nonprofit and I have not really worked for one before but I can say its probably one of the best thus far then any other job I have had in the past.

Angela’s Answer

Such a great question. The opportunity to choose between your dream job and your dream college is a fortunate place to be. College gives you so many experiences what might be your dream job today may be completely different after you graduate from college. College is a place to explore and grow your skills and find your path. If your dream job presents itself, what do you see after that? I always tell students lean toward the things that give you the most energy. What are the things that play to your strengths. You can never go wrong with an education whatever that might look like college, technical school, apprenticeship you name it.

Angela recommends the following next steps:

Ask the big questions what does my day look like in five years, tens years etc
What are your strengths think about doing a strengthsfinder assessment through Gallop.
What gives you energy? What are the things you love? Do you care about making a lot of money or a big impact?
Ask to job shadow someone with your dream job, ask if they will be your mentor.

Kimberly’s Answer

Hi Temitope,

The fact that you are already thinking about your dream college and/or dream job means you are thinking about your future, which is a good sign. If you can dream it, then you can make it happen. In order to attend your dream college, I would make sure you are doing your best in school, studying for the SATs, doing volunteer work, joining clubs, and working on your applications. If it is meant to be, you will get in to your dream school. As far as your dream job goes, nothing is off limits. I went to college to become a teacher and did that right out of college. I then made a career change into the field of sports. I now work for a pro sports team and love it. I got my current job today based on the time, dedication, and effort I put in to network, job search, and put myself out there. You can do anything you put your mind to, you just need to really want to make it happen. Good luck!

Tracy’s Answer

Hello Temitope,

I am glad that you have considered the word: "dream" which by definition is a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal. Therefore, it maybe a matter of your drive and timing to achieve both. I believe having a good education as a background foundation for skills such as: good communication, time management, public speaking , learning to deal with stress of multiple projects , and earning a degree can be used to gain a job. I also believe you can have a dream job that may seem amazing because of its description or perks. An I would suggest you speak to a lot of people in the industry job you would like to work. Whether it is attending school or going to work, there is a great demand for your time, dedication, sleepless nights, giving up fun outings occasionally to become successful.

Good Luck!!

Thank you for your interesting question! In my opinion, I would go for education instead of working so soon. However, to you, maybe you need to identify your what is your passion and talent to be able to decide which one you would like to go for.

For instance, jobs like experience-based like chief, artists etc. If let's say you want to be a chief, it requires more practices by implementing your skills and experiences in a long run, in order to achieve your goal in which to pursue your dream job. It takes time and engery all by yourself, meaning to put more of your effects to go for it.

On the other hand, the benefit of attending college is to be self-developed in terms of your social skills, critical thinking, teamwork, self-growing as well as passion etc. It's for you to find out who you are plus to gain your knowledge due to your future career, such as doctors, lawyers etc. Being said that, academic level is a must-do when you have given your decision to go for such the aspect of these professionals. Therefore, if you agree with me, give it a shot regardless to your dream job or dream college, I hope you can figure it out and let me know if you have an answer in mind.

Good Luck mate!
