I’m a brennan student at brennan high school and I am interested in going into physical therapy. I am interested in how the body works and how the body can heal itself. #physical-therapy #medicine

Sandra’s Answer

Those successful in my field are intentionally open minded and seek team input. Often they will "crowd source" from the larger team to generate ideas and input. The value they show in key contributors and the work of the team leads to a stronger overall team performance. This in turn increases their own success.

Another attribute I see in successful people in my field is the willingness to try new ideas and being willing to fail. They understand that as success is achieved, often there are also failed ideas along the way. They do not waste time over indexing on the failure but instead assess the learnings of the failure to continue the work and find the successful outcome.

Tobias’s Answer

It's very likely you will interact with other people, regardless of the field you work in, so being a good listener, communicating well, and showing up to make an impact will always go a long way.

Being a good listener means listening with the intent to understand, not just waiting for your turn to respond.

Communicating well includes listening well, as you can't respond appropriately if you haven't yet understood the context of the problem. Being able to communicate a solution or idea in a way that everyone can understand it might mean that you have to think of unique ways to explain things because what's obvious to you may not be obvious to someone else that doesn't have the context you do. I try to never assume that something is obvious.

Showing up to make an impact is exactly what it sounds like. Show up to do your work and do it well. Volunteer to take on challenging things that force you to grow through learning and leading. Lead by example and care about the work you do because at the end of the day it has your name on it.
