How much schooling is required for a nursing assistant ?

I am interested in the nursing field. #nurse

Thank you comment icon Agree with previous answer. There are different schools or training programs for Nursing Assistants. It’s important to look up your states governing board site and see what the requirements are. Most programs will be like previously described. Either way it’s a short training, followed by taking the States certification exam. Also, there is continued education that must be done and submitted every 2 years to renew the certificate/license. Requirements vary by state based on your governing board. Cinthya Ceretti, RN, MSN

Kylie’s Answer

Usually about 4-6 years! Most finish in 4 but if you are in a delayed program, or something effects your health or you have to fight for a seat in the nursing program then it may take you longer.

Hwal’s Answer

Mahealani,

I'm a PA (Physician Assistant) student but worked as a CNA before starting PA school. In my case, I completed a training program at a community college before taking the certification exam. The training was about two months long, and included about 20 hours of practicum, one in a long-term care facility and one on a hospital floor.

I've heard of some places that employ you to train on the job, but I'm not sure how common they are. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Good luck!

Hwal
