Mariley’s Answer

Hello Hans,

I'd suggest to start with your talents. What are you good at? Have you got any skills, natural or developed over time? What do you find easy to do? What do you enjoy doing? Say for example you're very good at football and/or other ball games, and that you grew up looking after your younger siblings and enjoyed playing with them. So perhaps you could become a fantastic football coach! Think about your strengths and the areas or fields of life you enjoy spending time on the most.

Beside a graduate/training certificate or equivalent for the job or profession you choose, most jobs out there require an above-average level of computer & numeracy literacy, as well as customer service or communication skills. Another desirable skill is languages, which can open up the doors to a wide range of jobs across all sectors.

There's a lot of experts giving valuable advice on talent and careers via Ted Talks, which you can find in YouTube. Here's one to get you started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Swu8iiuFx4

Good luck!

Mariley

Christopher’s Answer

Think about it this way - how can you add value to others? What are some problems that you notice in the world or that people face and how can you help solve those problems?

You may also consider jobs that you are interested in. Then look for job ads that usually define skills needed for those jobs. That might give you a good idea of skills that you can begin to develop.

Don’s Answer

The talent you need are good computer skills. Almost all of the work done today will need a computer so you need how to use Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). Know you have good computer skills will be an asset for you moving forward to getting a job.

Don recommends the following next steps:

Test your computer skills. See how strong you are in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. After a self-assessment of yourself, try to be very good with technology.
Get some free computer help or for a small fee education on the weaknesses you have with technology.
Try to get into a college or university and earn a degree in the field of your choosing. Look for schools nearby or that are online. Look at costs, travel, etc.
If you don't have enough talent please volunteer for free in your field of study. Companies always will hire for free help. This way you get the experience you need to post it on a resume.

Drew’s Answer

You need to be a hard worker, who is always willing to make adjustments in order to be successful. I'd say the key skill that most employers are looking for is the ability to adapt to a changing environment.
