What are some ways that I can stand out from people with a similar background as me?

At the moment, I'm an NPower student and the next step in the program is to obtain an internship. How can I stand out from my classmates who are also going after the same internships? #internship #career

These are all great suggestions! I would also add that when you apply, speaking to your passions, curiosity, and willingness to learn and grow will help set you apart from other candidates. Hiring managers often are looking for folks who are willing to learn and expand upon their existing knowledge, not always for folks who can already do the job. Showcasing your personality and enthusiasm will help set you apart. You can do this by sharing a personal connection to the role, what it means to you, and sharing what you are excited to learn from this opportunity.

Carrie’s Answer

Highlight your individual skills and the expertise you'll bring to the team; even if you don't have any work history you can highlight other personal traits! Are you organized, a strong team player, do you like learning and discovering new things or anything similar to those? Make it known! You can also reach out to hiring managers with personalized messages when you apply and send thank you notes as follow-up after an interview. Also check your network, if you know anyone who is connected to people at the company ask them to make introductions. But above all, clearly state why you're the best for the job and remember to be yourself.

Good luck!
