What Majors would be beneficial for the CIA to scout me in college? Or even a career in federal law enforcement, for example FBI, ATF, DEA?

George’s Answer

I spent 21 years in Army Intelligence and 23 years with DEA Intelligence so I have what I consider some useful ideas. First I suggest that you narrow your list to no more than three or four agencies and then contact recruiters from those agencies to find out what they are currently looking for. There are many useful majors for both Intelligence and Law Enforcement. When I was active, languages were greatly desired by both the Intelligence Community (IC) and Law Enforcement agencies. Computer science as well as finance and accounting degrees were also highly sought by DEA, FBI, HSI and ICE. You could also look into an internship program with your desired agency to get a better feel for it and see if it is really what you want to do.I hope you find this informative.

Your best bet is anything STEM-related. The more experience you have in building or improvising solutions to fit your own needs, the better.

I suggest that you look up those agencies and it may help you with your question. Also you can call them and ask for there recommendations. Military Intel may assist you with the federal agencies until your of age.

Denis’s Answer

I've had several friends work for the organizations you mentioned. Many were former police officers or in various military divisions. Their respective backgrounds were all different, but they all had a love of country and desire to serve. The CIA/NSA has many different roles from being a field agent where language and combat skills are required, to research and analytics where math and computer science expertise would be required. Good luck!
