Yes you have to study for and take the Universal CFC Card which allows you to handle all types of refrigeration chemicals.

There are a handful of chemicals you will handle as an HVAC tech. The most popular are coil cleaners and refrigerant. You need an EPA certificate to carry and handle refrigerant. When dealing with other chemicals, follow OSHA standards and practices.

Yes James is correct. Check your state laws also cause in addition to the OSHA 10 you may need the OSHA Hazwoper 40. The EPA has 2 tests from your position and point in time. You will need the EPA Universal and the 608.
