It depends on what field of medicine you want to go into. As a psychiatrist, you will rarely have emergencies where you have to go in in the middle of the night. However, as a general surgeon on call, you will often have patients present with acute problems: appendicitis or necrotizing fasciitis. Along your journey, start to look at different specialties and see which one fits you best.
