Hey Connor! These are some great suggestions. Another one to consider is getting a job in a company with a global presence. This way, you may get opportunities to travel and visit/work with colleagues in other places, and also use any personal time on those trips to take photos.

Hi Connor,

Yes, I have travelled a lot and will continue to travel. I've already been to 43 countries. I recommend looking for study abroad programs offered at your college. There, you will get information about the abroad programs offered by your college and likely be able to apply for a scholarship to go. I can not recommend this highly enough. You will get a taste of traveling while you are in an organized and safe environment while you are 'getting your feet wet' to traveling.

You can post your photos on instagram and if you get a big enough following, you can potentially make money doing it, although this is no guarantee. National Geographic has "Your Shot" which might help you get some online attention for your photos. https://yourshot.nationalgeographic.com/

It might be a wiser decision to already be doing something that gives you some income while you are exploring and taking pictures. I, for example, taught courses online. There are other programs that can help too like:

The Peace Corps https://www.peacecorps.gov/volunteer/

Fulbright (this has to happen shortly after graduating college) https://us.fulbrightonline.org/

Au Paring https://www.aupair.com/

Additionally to this, you don't necessarily need a job that requires you to travel to go out into the world. You can get a perfectly good local job and then use vacation days to explore the world and use photography as a meaningful hobby- my dad does this. I make sure that I take a vacation out of the country every year and my job doesn't have much to do with traveling.

Hope that helps! Get out there in the world!

Best,

Emily

Emily A. recommends the following next steps:

Check out study abroad programs at your college- see if your specific major has an abroad program.
Keep up with photography and enter your photographs to online competitions often.
After graduation, look into any of the programs I sent along: Au Pair, Fulbright, Peace Corps. (Learning a second language is very important)

Yes, I feel really lucky to be a part of the company where i get to travel for official trips. I have travelled a lot on my own too and will continue to travel.
I would say that if you love travelling so much- consider is getting a job in a company with a global presence. This way, you will have so many opportunities to travel.
Also if you like photgraphy- be engaged in your social accounts and post pictures, vlogs and this would also turn out to be a source of income if you do it well.
