Britni’s Answer

It depends on what practice that you are employed at. Front office tasks include scheduling, phone calls, eligibility checks, insurance, checking in patients, etc. Back office tasks could include vitals, taking medical histories, room turnover, assisting the physician with procedures, giving injections, sending out pathology or labs, etc. Hope that helps!

Monica’s Answer

I have been a MA for about 25 years. I have worked any many different areas of the medical field, it just really depends on where you work ex., hospital, minor emergency clinic, specialty clinic or lab.
I currently work in family medicine and we have a steady flow of patients that need lab and we have our own phlebotomist who go to lab. I will do the lab at the Drs request, especially if the pt is more comfortable in the room doing lab rather than a lab.
I will say this when I worked at the hospital lab years ago, inpatient and outpatient, I loved it! So much hands on and when your busy time flies and you get so much hands on. I love doing lab for hard sticks! Remember the more you learn the more knowledge and power you have! Step out of your comfort zone and learn everything you can and take the initiative to challenge yourself to carrying on task that will help you grow! To succeed in life I believe you must have a passion for what you do.

May God bless you on your journey my friend!
