I would find out if there are any community college or certificate programs locally that you could take courses in HVAC. The likelihood of you getting a job in this field will be greater if you have some formal training or a certificate first. The professors might also have connections to help you get a job with a local company even while you are still studying. HVAC service will always be needed, and it's a great field to get into.

G. Mark’s Answer

I'm actually viewing this from the outside, having been a mechanic and worked on some HVAC only slightly, but I can make some logical observations. First, HVAC in general is very important and now is considered critical by most businesses. Second, an AC failure is pretty much an emergency for some cases. Third, El Paso? Yeah, they would need AC quite a bit. Fourth, it's generally something you need a lot of training for. So I'd say the probability of landing a job are pretty high in El Paso for the right person.
