Dale’s Answer

Marine biologists must complete at least a bachelor's degree, which takes about four years. Marine biologists who pursue master's degrees may take an additional two to three years to complete their education, and earning a PhD will take up to six years more.

Aaron Mark’s Answer

Reach out to an Aquarium or University with Marine Biology research near you and ask if you are able to shadow for a day a Marine Biologist. It gives you the opportunity to ask them questions in person. If you have a good rapport with the person you shadow, you may always ask if maybe they could become your mentor.
