Eldredge, Bethany’s Answer
Best choice is to pick a good BSN program to start. After that you will usually have 2-4 months of orientation in the unit you are hired for that will be specific to NICU

Jeanette’s Answer
Nursing school is typically 4 years; there are still some community colleges that are less; the initial degree is 2 years but increasingly there is more demand for 4 year nurses who have a bachelors degree

Evan’s Answer
1-4 years to be a neonatal nurse:
1 year if nursing program through hospital (not a lot of programs these days)
2 years for associate's degree through online/community college
4 years for BSN
After any of the above 3 options, you must sit for your NCLEX boards to get your RN
You don't need any additional certifications/degrees to become NICU nurse, just RN. But many hospitals won't hire RN into NICU without experience. Usually ask for 1 year med/surg or postpartum/newborn nursery experience to work in NICU. I was able to work in NICU as new grad but had to move to Pittsburgh.
