Hi, Johnny! I am working on this certification and I am a volunteer with my local wildlife station. These are just a few of the skills that I use and observe:
- First Aid and CPR training for both wildlife and humans
- Understanding of Zootonic diseases, parasites and the symptoms related to many different injuries
- understanding of the anatomy of assorted wildlife, their habitat, and diet needs
- being able to prepare the aforementioned diets
- being able to complete repetitive tasks
- bottle feeding/"hand" feeding
- decent handwriting
- Being able to interact with people
- understanding the signs of a terminal patient
I would consider seeing if you can volunteer, shadow or intern with a local station - I wish you the best of luck moving forward!!
Reach out to your local wildlife rehabilitation station or zoo to see if you could volunteer, shadow or intern. Or even just learn more about the process.
Look up the requirements of your state to become a wildlife rehabber.
While its not required, having a degree in wildlife management, biology or a related field will 100% help moving forward. Look into potential schools.
