Hi Susmitha,
Good day. I see that the question has been dated quite far aback. However, you might have understood by know that the IAS/ UPSC Civils exam can be taken by anyone irrespective of their background. We have aspirants from almost all fields, (well, the prerequisite is an undergraduate degree) acing the exam from doctors and engineers to those who had studies History, Anthropology, Geology, Design, Economics and Political Science. However, certain things which are a sure shot for conversion include social intelligence and awareness, being thorough about your field of expertise, understanding of history, geography and how the civil service and the legislature/ executive system works. Certain Brownie Points: -
1. Understand India's foreign policy, updates on the relations with various nations and possibly get to understand relations between India and 3 other nations- IFS (Brownie points if you know a foreign language- Mandarin, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, French, German etc.)
2. Understand the local issues about your state or your locality, History etc.
3. Go through the possible steps/ key decisions taken by Collectors, IPS officers in terms of projects, law and order.

Hi,
In my opinion Ias have more social and Arts related subject. So if you would take history, Political science, Geography, Economics or sociology than these will help you in mains exam along with you can also choose 1 subject of above listed as optional subject for IAS exam, that would really help you as optional has graduation level syllabus asked in IAS mains exam. Best Wishes!!!
