Donavon’s Answer
I was in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts when I was younger and truly enjoyed it! I didn't go all the way through to Eagle Scout (something that I regret not doing) but stuck with it through my Sophomore Year. What I received most out of my time in Scouting were the friendship that I made and the skills I learned to prepare me for life.
I learned outdoor skills such as hiking, map reading, camping and survival skills; all of which prepared me for my military career. I learned public speaking and leadership, skills that prepared me for my career as a youth pastor, trainer and motivational speaker. I was challenged to learn skills (merit badges) in areas that I never really considered before...this all helped prepare to take the risks that I take today and pushed me to be in a constant state of growth and development.
I am sure it isn't for everyone but I really did have an amazing time and look forward to getting my boys plugged into a scout program here.
I would check out: https://www.scouting.org/programs/cub-scouts/ to find a troop near you and go visit one of their gatherings.
