Can I work independently as a computer engineer??

You can work independently as freelance or contractor. Usually, the computer engineers work on project basis. You can work on one project as contractor and then switch to another project.

There is large number of online services/organisations that help you find opportunities for work in IT sector.
You will have the opportunity to work in different projects, taking different roles, etc.
Do check the regulations in your country regarding self-employment. They differ from country to country, so it's always good to get familiar with the regulations before you make a decision to work independently.

For sure, Google freelance software engineering. There are sites that connects folks who need software solutions and software engineers. These will be mostly remote. Also there are many job postings that you can apply as an independent contractor.
