Richard’s Answer
Teachers can get promoted to work for school districts in things such as designing and updating curriculum or becoming district-advisors for AP. These are mostly administrative positions and lack the same contact with students that teaching jobs possess.

Harmony’s Answer
There is significant advancement opportunity in teaching depending upon your interest. Almost all district administrators from the principal to curriculum directors to superintendents were at some point teachers. Just as teaching requires a license, there is a separate license with education requirements to be an administrator such as a principal.
There are also significant opportunities for teachers to lead instructional teams or professional learning communities. Teachers can also serve as Teachers on Special Assignment working on mentoring new teachers, focusing on special topics, or helping with district level curriculum or other work.
