The Physician Assistant (PA) has a unique opportunity to work in various fields, from the operating room and critical care, to clinics, schools, prisons and hospitals. You can even serve your country as a PA in the US military.

If, by environment, you mean the interactions with others (more than the physical settings), I get to work with nurses, respiratory and physical therapists, doctors, surgeons and, most importantly, the families of the sick and injured. As a PA, you'll always have a supervising physician to help you and to oversee your daily practice, but as you grow in experience and knowledge, you'll be responsible to make decisions and take actions that you've learned your physician would approve. Not only will you be able to help patients get better, but you can teach them and their families about how to stay well.

If you're considering the field, you'll need to do well in your general studies in high school. Following that, a 4 year degree is required and usually has clinical science/pre-med core curriculum. The PA program is 27 months long; 12 months class room and 15 months clinical rotations.

It's the greatest job I could imagine having. I have been a PA for 15 years. Before that, I was a paramedic for 10. Feel free to ask me any more questions.

Samantha’s Answer

Hi Hailey,

The term work environment is used to describe the surrounding conditions in which an employee operates. The work environment can be composed of physical conditions, such as office temperature, or equipment, such as personal computers. It can also be related to factors such as work processes or procedures.

This also involves the work culture with your co-workers

I hope this helps

Sam
