In routine xray, CT, and MRI, you will perform the imaging exam which will be sent to the radiologist for interpretation. If in the hospital, you will usually send a transporter to fetch the patients. If it is an outpatient setting, you will be more customer service oriented and be responsible or keeping the patients happy and comfortable.
OR xray techs spend their day in the operating room controlling the fluoroscopy for the physicians to perform image guided procedures.
In the interventional suite (or cardiology cath lab) techs are in charge of imaging as well but also scrub in with the physician and assist with the catheter and wire use as well.

I arrive at the clinic by 7:15am so I can turn on 4 computers including the X-ray equipment. Patients begin to arrive at 7:30 and we take care of 40-60 people a day. Injuries range from fractures to chronic joint problems . On an average day, I xray from 20-30 people. Patient positioning is key to successfully caring for patients. Our unit is all digital. I began taking X-rays my junior year in High School so it’s obviously a rewarding career!

Everyday is different! As well as every part of your day can be different. A basic overview for a general radiologic technologist could be: one minute you’re down in the ER taking xrays on a trauma patient. Then you can be in out patient taking xrays on a “walky-talky” patient. Next you might be in the OR using fluoroscopy on a hip replacement. Every day is different, and every patient is different.
