The best state is the state you can get into! That said, many schools favor in-state applicants. As a Michigander, I encourage you to check out the many programs in your state first. There are great schools throughout the country with graduates matching into competitive specialties.
Find statistical data by purchasing the MSAR from the AAMC.
Speak with a premed advisor at your university.
Reach out to physicians and surgeons in your area to get their advice (and shadow or volunteer in their office once pandemic-related restrictions are relaxed).

That is a good question. One of the best states to consider is Massachusetts. Boston, MA has some of the top rated hospitals and medical programs in the world. You should consider a medical program that also has a good connection to hospitals for practical rotations where you can learn from professionals in the field.

There are plenty of good colleges and medical schools. In general if you are interested in research, you may want to look at the more elite private institutions, but if you are interested in clinical practice, a state university may offer the best value
