I have been a homeowner for 17 years and I can tell you that the landscaping chores never seem to end. When I travel around in my own town you see a different landscaping truck and trailer on almost every street. So while yes there will always be landscaping work to do there is also A LOT of competition. How are you going to differentiate your company from the rest and get the attention of new customers? How are you going to KEEP your customers when another company tries to undercut your price? The more services you can offer the more value you will provide to your customers and they can rely on you for all of their outdoor needs. To answer your specific questions. 1. It's hard work. I couldn't imagine doing it 8 hours or more per day 5 days a week. 2. You could literally ask any home owner if you can help them out with yard work. Everyone has some task that needs doing at their house that they don't want to do themselves. Start with Friends and Family and then ask for referrals to expand your business. 3. Yes I would expect that you are outside 95% of the time.

Cindie’s Answer

Hi Paul. First I'm not a landscaper by trade, however, I have owned my own home and done lots of landscaping myself plus I have friends and family in the landscaping business. To answer your second question, you really don't have to have a lot to get started except some business cards, basic tools, and a lawnmower. Start small...don't go into debt. With your first earnings start putting some of it away as soon as possible so that you can grow your business from your earnings. I can put you in touch with 2 or 3 other landscaping business owners if you like. Please let me know. Good luck.
