hi Zelda,
this is a very broad question, and i believe many people asked the same questions to themselves, everyone may get different answer, and different stages the job also means different to you.
for myself, there are some points which makes the job very important to me:
- firstly , i am working in cisco, I like the culture and the people around me, i enjoy the days i spend in my company.
- secondly, i do think the job i am doing, it will help others. I have seen the values of the job i am doing.
- third, job is the a good way to build the relationships with the people around you. you have interactions with people from different locations, different background. you will meet friends during the work.
- fourth, on job learning is the most efficiency way of learning, while doing the job, you knows what you are interested, and very clearly know what you need to learn. Learn based on the questions and issues, you will gain what you need really fast. also you are not learning the knowledge by yourself, you have the coworkers around to ask and learn from them.
- fifth, i also need the income to supply my family. job is not only for fun, for learning, for achiving your values, also income makes you become independent!
....
just list few of the reasons, hope this could help you!

Great question. Someone once told me that the best way to identify one's dream job is to find a job that matches one's interests (am I passionate about this job/field?), skills ( am I good, talented in this field), and financial (does this job meet my financial goals) needs. Thinking along that framework will help you to better define how important a job is for you.
By the way, given the rapid adoption of electric vehicles in US, I would consider looking into EV specialization. Hope this helps and good luck!
