John’s Answer
You need to have a passion to help fight for the victims, and have a desire to promote justice in your community. The hours can be long, and while the reward can be intrinsically satisfying, you may be the only one that knows what a great job you did. If you like puzzles, you'll love your job. However, also be okay with never knowing the answer. There's also the dark side of investigating, which may keep your mind racing at night or there may be things you can't unsee. You may also have a different view of the people in your community, and you need to be able to detach yourself from your job and understand that not everyone is inherently evil, it's just everyone you are investigating seems to have evil tendencies. With all that said, by far one of the best jobs out there. Good pay, respect among your peers, always evolving and never boring. Someone else wrote about report writing... Yes, this is a big part of your job. I would say more than 50% of your time will be writing or updating reports.

Dalillah, I loved my job as a criminal investigator. I am retired now after a 20-year career and would've stayed on longer but was reaching my Federally-mandated retirement age (56). Yep, in the Federal system, there is a mandatory retirement age requirement.

Nakia’s Answer
I enjoy my job very much because I've realized things about myself that I like incorporating into my career. If you know the things that you like when it comes to work and working with people, then you should find a job that allows you to exploit those things. I enjoy business, working with the shopping experience (because I love to shop), and being creative. My job allows me to immerse myself in those things.
