E. C’s Answer

Jacob B,

Enter formal training or take a certificate training programs which are offered in vocational schools, trade schools and and junior colleges. You can also try an apprenticeship program which only lasts for a few months before you can work. In fact they are offering a paid mechanic apprentice position at the Compton Creamery in Compton, CA. I wish you the best on your journey in life.

Brad’s Answer

A career in automotive repairs is a great direction to go. Not only is the job itself rewarding, the opportunities for growth are enormous. Service technicians typically follow a progressive path, starting out changing oil and doing tire work, then progressing to various "specialties", including electronics, emission control, transmissions, engines, . . . and increasingly, telematics. It's also a career that is virtually impervious to economic ups and downs, as technicians are always valued and needed. I agree with the previous response. Look for trade schools, many of which are sponsored by auto manufacturers. They are the gateway to dealership service. Good luck!
