Danielle’s Answer

When I was applying to colleges I thought first about where I wanted to be and then let the rest fall into place. I wanted to be in California or Portland. I started to look at universities in those areas. If possible go and visit the colleges so you can get a feel for what life there would be like. I think another really important thing to think about is what size school you want to go to or if you want to go to a public or private school. Almost all colleges will have an English or English related major so worry about that last.

Danielle recommends the following next steps:

Think about where you would like to be located
Think about what size school you would like to be at
Try to visit the campuses if possible

Aaron’s Answer

Hi Peytin,

The first thing I would do is think about what do you want to be when you grow up. After you have decided what you wanted to be conduct research on that area and decide what does the specific occupation consist of with available job opportunities, steps you have to take to purse this occupation with degrees. After you have conducted this research you want to see if the degree is obtained in a community college that is 3 years, a university that is 4 years or trade school usually in occupations such as plumbing. Then decide if you want to stay at home to attend school in your area of residence or attend school out of state. After you have decided where you want to attend school then decide on how you will pay by researching scholarships that are available that can assist. Hope this helps.

-Thank you,
Aaron
