I want to get a job or volunteer to help end sex trafficking

I am one class away from my bachelors degree. I am 43 years old. My major is sociology from Portland State University. I am a mother of four and also a grandmother. My passion is to work or volunteer in a position to facilitate an end to sex trafficking and/or to help victims that have been trafficked and to raise awareness about the issue. #college #job #career-choice

This is such an important way to make a difference and save lives! I would visit the national human trafficking referral directory for organizations in your area to volunteer. I believe that volunteering is the best way to enter a new type of work. I'm retiring soon and would like to pursue volunteer work in this area as well.

Linda recommends the following next steps:

Call a Village for One 503-730-1469 for information on volunteer opportunities
Thank you comment icon If you have not taken this course you should really look into it: Forensic Interviewing. When dealing with victims of sex trafficking (especially minors) this specialized type of interview is a major plus. Stephen Walker

Bettye’s Answer

This laudable and much needed effort can be best achieved professionally with a Social Work Degree. A Bachelors Degree in Social Work would probably suffice but since you are nearing completion with the B.A. in Sociology (which will definitely complement this initiative) I would recommend pursuing your MSW (Masters of Social Work degree) which is very broad and far reaching experientially. With the MSW you can do agency work and even pursue private practice in the field. Another option is to team with police department for possibly paid or volunteer position. Seek opportunities with Criminal Justice venues using your newly acquired skills and degree. You might be pleasantly surprised with the partnerships that can be forged with like-minded professionals with same/similar passion for this rapidly growing disenfranchised segment of society.
