Gisella’s Answer

It can also depend on what type of welding you focus on - Not an expert on this subject, but I know that Tig welding pays more. You have to have a certain skill to do that though. Very precise.

Kelly M.’s Answer

I work daily with various tradesmen. The individuals who show up on time, prepared to work and strive to do their best are the ones brought back and continuously working.

I suggest regularly updating your certifications - which is pretty easy to do. There are local and national organizations who hold training sessions throughout the year.

If you choose to join a union, they will have training sessions for you.

Stay relevant + stay busy = always working.

Always working = supporting your family.

Kelly M. recommends the following next steps:

Look into unions you'd be interested in: Iron Workers, Boilermakers, steam pipe fitters.
Check into national societies and organizations: AWS, ASME, NICET.
