No not unless you want a degree specific to your field such as engineering, etc. Welding is a learned skill and there is a variety of different types of welding you can learn at a trade school. You can become a very successful welder in a short time at a trade school. If you went to college, you would still have to go to a trade school or a company that would specifically teach you to weld. College is important for an education and for higher learning, but it does not necessarily help you advance with a specific skill. I hope this helps
