Can you recommend trade magazines or professional associations to help further my career development? Either for welding or wildland firefighting.

Hi Vianna,

It depends on what career you want. It is good to read trade magazines and join professional associates to network as well as stay current in the field. If you want to learn generic skills that can be applied to anything I would recommend Toastmasters as a leadership and communications organization you can join. Those skills apply across the board.

It is also good to stay current in current events by reading newspapers. As you read the papers online you can see what sections catch your attention.

Thank you comment icon Thank you for replying I did forget to mention I was interested in welding, but wildland firefighter is great as well. vianna

For welding, you can join American Welding Society (AWS) as a member - https://www.aws.org/membership/page/home.
They have plenty of materials there to further your career development in welding, welding inspections etc

For firefighting , you can join National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as a member- https://www.nfpa.org/

You can browse through their websites and get an idea of what you want to do, then you can join LinkedIn and connect to people in the relevant field and take advices regarding your career. I would suggest researching on YouTube as well.

Hope this helps
