There are quite a few different directions you can go with welding in and of itself. But to answer your question, additional training you can do to complement your welding skillset are mechanical drafting, engineering technician, mechanical/aerospace engineering, and mechanics. These are all good fields where a strong understanding and technical skillset in welding would be beneficial. In welding, you could go into nondestructive testing, Certified Welding Inspector, and Underwater Welding to name a few.
Step 1. Look into the suggested programs.
Step 2. Decide what industry you'd like to work in.
Step 3. Apply to the program that best fits your interests.
With Engineering the industry you choose may determine where you would live.So get onto indeed and see where the jobs you are interested in are located.

Metal work compliments the industry of welding beautifully. Where there's metal, there has to be welders. Focus on industries that do a lot of metal refining, and I'm sure they'll need welders. Construction is also a good way to get into welding!
