Hi Casey!

Are you looking to play sports in college? Would you like a career in sports? There are sports management degrees you can pursue that I've heard are great.

I played baseball in college and it has been my lifelong passion. I currently work in the tech space and am working on a side business around baseball technology. Point is, learn as much as you possible can and find areas you'd like to learn a bit more about. Always be curious. You have no idea where the path will lead you.

Also, the sports technology space is incredible these days and only getting better! Look up resources like SportTechie to following things you might like!

Yuri’s Answer

Hi Casey,

It's great that you are asking questions about your future! Finding your career path may seem like a difficult task, when you are in the beginning of your journey. It helps, if you think about it as an adventure, maybe the greatest in your life ... To start off, you should consider the things that you like or good at. Try to answer these questions:

  • What are my favorite subjects in school?
  • What are my favorite activities outside of school?
  • Do I like to work with and learn new technologies?
  • Do I like natural sciences (math, physics, chemistry)?
  • Do I like social sciences (history, literature)?
  • Do I like working in groups with other people or alone, as an individual?
  • Am I good at sports (as in good enough to get college scholarship)?
  • Do I enjoy helping others?

There are many other questions you can ask yourself that will help guide your decision. The main thing is to start from big questions and slowly narrow it down. If you have a career in mind, ask people around you or come back to CareerVillage. Also, remember that finding your career involves trying different things. So, if you have a chance, try to find volunteer/internship opportunities near you and sign up. It will help you find out more about yourself and your future.
