SIDDHANATHAN’s Answer

People with gamin skills tend to have high IQ. Besides investigating its a myth or true, good thing is you know what you are interested at and you are aiming at a career of your interest. This is a good first step! From the way you phrased your question you seem to be stubborn in what you choose and would have the attitude of never quit without trying. Obviously you could explore options in gaming industry in designing/developing or architecting where you fit. If you want a career outside IT I would suggest you look in film industry. People in film industry do need innovative/think outside the box thinking and you would fit.

Jae Hwan’s Answer

Hi Osmin,

Going few years back, when I was a fresh graduate from high school I wanted a career in gaming industry like you. I wanted to either be a pro-gamer or a streamer for the games that I enjoyed playing. I realized it is not an easy journey as I had to be exceptionally excelling in order to take this into action.

I am currently working as a Customer Support Engineer in a computer network field. Although it does not directly relate to the gaming industry, its some how relevant to it as the company I work for supports 70% of the world's internet traffic. I truly enjoy my work and I think it is always a good idea to let your career options wide and broad.

One of the interesting and realistic careers that you might want to look into is Game Development. This career path consists of multiple roles such as

-administration

-art, animation, sound

-business operations

-community, marketing and communications

-design

-engineering and technology

-Esports and Broadcasting

Check out this link to see examples of possible career path: https://careers.blizzard.com/en-us/

Try find out what you enjoy the most or think what you can do good while playing games and if your skills align with one of those roles, build your skills by building your own portfolio.

Best of luck!

Ashwin’s Answer

Hey Osmin,

Looking in to your interest, there are multiple career paths you can take. I currently work in a large US-based company and I came from a gaming background myself, where I enjoyed the experience.

I may suggest that you explore many avenues in IT, game development, game tester, maybe you could look opportunities in some of the gaming companies such as interactive, blizzard, EA etc. Furthermore, you could always try to apply for a working experience in above mentioned companies. I am not sure how old you are but when you are of age, you could apply for internships, graduate programs, try to work for free to determine if this is the right industry for you, as your working life will be a long time, possibly 30 years or more. Build your connections and relationships with other people on the way. I hope this helps you.

All the best for your future.

Such’s Answer

Identifying your strengths is really the first step to figuring out your career path. Knowing that you are loyal is a great start. But there is much more to strengths than just that. I would recommend doing an in depth analysis of what your strengths and weaknesses are. A great platform for this is Clifton strengths-https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths/en/252137/home.aspx

First there is an online assessment that identifies your strengths and then you can explore and develop these areas. When I worked through this platform I was amazed at two thing. Firstly, it solidified areas that I thought to be strengths but I didn’t know how to express it or act on these strengths. Also, I discovered areas I didn’t know about but once it was pointed out to me, it all made sense. You can do the same thing and develop yourself more than you ever thought.

So after you work on your strengths, think about what you want to do and what you can do. I’m afraid your interest in gaming may stop you from looking into the many other industries that you may enjoy. Although you need to do something that you are passionate about, and you are clearly passionate about gaming, someone who so easily recognizes loyalty can easily become passionate about many other worthwhile areas.

Such recommends the following next steps:

Discover your strengths (through https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths/en/252137/home.aspx or any other platform
Develop your strengths until you really understand them
Think deeply about what you really want to do

Tony’s Answer

Hi Osmin,

Being loyal makes you a good fit for any company. So it really go downs to what you like/what you enjoy doing. I too like playing game, and I sometimes use gaming as a method for networking. You know, catching up with your old friends in games, getting familiar with new colleagues, etc.

To be specific, take a look at game development type of job. : ) But like I said, managers will always like you if you are loyal so go for what you like the most!

Cheers,

Tony
