John’s Answer

You should look at each business job to understand the necessary credentials. A college degree is necessary and maybe a graduate degree is too. Different jobs require industry credentials. For example, accountants have a Certified Public Accountant certification. Financial Analysts have a Chartered Financial Analyst certification.

Angela’s Answer

Hi Wesley,

I am glad that you are seeking a business career, but first I wanted to mention, do not try to be better than other people, be yourself, study and work hard. Competition is good, but only if you are competing to better yourself. To push yourself, if you are not already, I would play a sport. Sports help you focus, and you will find that in pushing yourself to be a better athlete, that translates into your school work and work life.

Angela recommends the following next steps:

You will need to major at least in Business Administration so you can take courses and electives that will benefit your career.
Decide what area of business you want to enter - Consulting , Accounting and Finance, what aspect of business excites you and have an interest in.
If you are able, see if you can find a part-time after school job where you can get exposure to the business world. This would give you excellent experience for your career.
Find a college that has an excellent Business Administration program.
