Hello Cristobal,
Personally, I work at an accounting firm and often it is important to obtain a CPA licencing. In order to get your CPA, you need to obtain 150 credits in college and take 4 exams within a course of a year. If you are interested in accounting, this would be an important certification to work towards. If you are interested in accounting, goodluck! It is a hard career but rewarding.

It depends on what career you're thinking of.
Some careers require certifications and some require state licenses. Behind a certificate or license is specialized education, so you can begin with some type of training after high school. It might involve college, community college, a specialized school or an apprenticeship.
For example, I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, which requires a bachelors degree, then a masters degree in social work. Then I had to have supervised practice hours and pass an exam. Another example is for a hair stylist's license, there is specialized cosmetology education along with practice hours required. It all depends on the profession.
Community Colleges are good sources of information about various professional certifications. Also, www.onetonline.org is a great sources of information about hundreds of careers. A little research will get you the information you're looking for!
Good luck!
