Hi Aylin,

I think your question is interesting as I feel like that office administration if a safe place to start and get exposed to several areas of the business where you find your way provided the company is large enough to grant you that exposure. I think a job of this nature could give you the building blocks to easily move you into an operational or HR role if you lean more that way. However, if you find yourself more technical in nature and exposed to tools/applications, you could move to an IT role. It really depends on how you position yourself, connections you make and training you take. In a smaller company, functional lines are sometimes not as clear. If you consider taking a job in a smaller company, I would ask up front what advancement opportunities may be for that role (if it's important to you in staying there long term).

Hope that helps.

Lisa

In my opinion, office Administration or entry level positions are a wonderful way to start out in a company. You are able to see what the company is all about, what types of people work there and the other feel for the company. You have the opportunity to see the many departments and different jobs that the company offers. Many companies want to hire or promote from within so you may have many opportunities fir movement. You want to make sure before you accept a job to ask about the potential for advancement, promotions or internal transfers if you are interested in that.

Many managers and even CEO's started off in office administration positions. Its such a vital/important role and you get to immerse yourself in many areas witout having the full responsibility for them yet. Once you have a good handle on all of your daily operations and tasks, ask your manager for more responsibility or some project work. Its important that managers see that your current responsibilties are being met or even exceeded before opportuites may arise. Best of Luck!
