Christopher’s Answer

It is important to do your research on a company before going into an interview. Look at their website, if they have one to see if they have an About Section that might talk about the company values. Also, you can search their social media sites to see what things they may share. That could give you insight into what they value.

Raphael’s Answer

The previous answers do a great job covering this questions but don't forget the basics as well. You have to show up, be prompt, put in the effort all day. I hear from many people who starts a new business how hard it is to find good workers and they are talking about some of the basics. Also, take ownership as they may not be able to keep your day 100% utilized so if there is downtime find supportive tasks that can help or use it to learn/practice the trade (don't use it as break time). Companies will value your work ethic and it will show you are trying to help the company grow which in turn will help your career.

Pii’s Answer

Hi Dillian, I don't know about welding in specific. But having had different roles in hospitality and tech and interviewed and hired candidates in both industries I can tell you that all top candidates have some common traits:

  1. They have a genuine passion and/or interest to the role they have applied to work for and have done research on the company and the job role they are applying for so that they can easily demonstrate this in an interview.
  2. Trainability, the companies do not expect new hires to know it all before they start but often hire people who come across as quick learners so that they can be easily trained for the job.
  3. They have a positive attitude towards work. We all know work can be boring sometimes but having a positive attitude is a big bonus for a potential new candidate.

Pii recommends the following next steps:

Research the companies you would like to work for
Research what a day in the life of a welder would look like

Carole Sams’s Answer

Each company hopefully has identified their values, and for each it is different. It is important to research the company website to find their values. Also the job description often lists these specifically or they hint at it in their write up. I think most companies value honesty, collaboration and a great work ethic. Research any companies you are interested to see if their values align with your own - that makes for a successful match.

Leïla’s Answer

First of all, do your homework and do some research about the company. The company are looking for profile/personality and people that would fit within a team. Most often than not, they are looking for a "good fit" and know that the person then train the person they hire.

So be your authentic self, as much as you can, during the interview process.

Good luck!
