Health Information Technician job responsibilities vary depending on the size of the employer's organization. They work with all aspects of a patient record including demographic information, medical history, family history, medication history, diagnosis and treatment, test results, lab and radiology reports, and other information necessary for the providing quality patient care.

From what I can see its a growing field and it will only get bigger. More and more medical information is solely on computers and stored on cloud-based services instead of paper/ notebooks in office. Health Information Techs also protect against fraud, something that is always a worry in the medical field but even more so for seniors who are more likely to fall for scams. However, it is also competitive as there are always jobs available and not necessarily enough people wanting to do it. You dont necessarily interact with patients, so you do have to be willing to work a job with limited contact but it is rewarding and at the end of the day, patient's medical data is safe,

Hello Sofia,
Healthcare Industry will always see job growth. Info Tech with Healthcare emphasis is going to grow alongside with it. As a software engineer, I can move freely between industries, including healthcare, because the demand is so high. One of my best friend works at a local children's hospital as one. He offered me a position but I opted to work at Intuit, the pay is a bit higher at Intuit as his hospital is a nonprofit. From what he told me, the hospital has a ton of tech-related work to go around so the job security is strong, even stronger than with my company which let go to a few employees when covid lockdowns first happened. As the saying goes, data is king and even though my company specializes on your financial data (taxes), it pales in comparison to the mountains of data hospitals have on their customers, including the large emphasis on protecting said data. From what I've seen, machine learning and AI hasn't been leveraged effectively in the health sector. I've been seeing, and even gotten job offers, from health care related start ups in Bay Area that are trying to leverage ML/AI effectively. I am positive some of it is being used in protein folding operations though! That being said, the future is bright for any data analysts/scientist, especially in the healthcare industry.
Best of luck~
