Dr. Frank’s Answer
A cardiologist will primarily diagnose disorders of the heart and treat them with medication. Cardiologists also perform interventions on the arteries in the heart working through puncture wounds in the groin, but they do not perform open surgery.

Richard’s Answer
A cardiologist performs interventional procedures such as cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, and stenting. These procedures are performed through tiny skin incisions. Long catheters are guided through the vascular system under guidance of x-ray and sometimes intravascular ultrasound.
However these invasive procedures are not considered surgery. The physicians who perform surgery on the heart are called thoracic surgeons.

Rachel’s Answer
Cardiologist can receive extra training to be able to perform procedures on the blood vessels and insert pacemakers. They do not perform open surgery in the traditional sense.
