What are the downsides of being a veterinarian or a nurse?

I have always wanted to be a vet but I also keep getting nursing as my number 1 option for career surveys. #veterinary #nurse #animals

Dr. Frank’s Answer

Hello Hailie

I love being a veterinarian! However, everyone is different and you have to look at the entire picture to decide if the field suit you. The downside is tow folds, One is financial. Now days, it can cost up to 400,000 to finish the degree in 4 years, which can be financed as student loans. However, the salary of a veterinarian lags behind physicians and it is very difficult to pay all that money back and have a good living. The other downside is sadness and potential depression we see with difficult cases when clients opt to Euthanasia due to expense or reaching the end with treatments options, like in cancer. These are the main 2 downside that I can see. Otherwise, it is an awesome field to be in and work with animals.
