Is commercial diver a good field to go into?

Yes it is a very good field to go into.
With commercial diving you are not bound to the off-shore oil and gas industry at all. Every state in our nation
Has Commercial divers that live in that state and dive inland. Not only did I woork off-shore I also worked as a inland diver in Phoenix, Arizona. Diving in raw sewage, drinking water, anti-freeze, lakes, ponds, rivers, golf courses, and water tanks. I made good money.
Working off-shore as a saturation diver
You can expect to earn: over $100,000
A year and 60,000 - 100,000 inland

This is not my profession but considering that companies are investing a lot in self-driving vehicles, I would not recommend going into this field.
